Thread: My Slow Server

    My Slow Server

I just reinstalled Debian on my dino 486 4 100MHZ and it has apache with php and mysql to run phpnuke...
When I load my page http://gabe.mine.nu It seems AWFUL slow but I onlw see 50% of the cpu being used up when I load pages... What should I do so it wont be so slugish?

    Index page loaded pretty fast.

A side question, are you running your web server behind a router or anything? If you are, do you have a static or dynamic IP?

I do have it behind a router... dynamicly because if I give it a static Ip the connection closes like after two hours... I already called netgear 5 times and they tell me to do stupid crap which I dont think will fix it... And at the same time tell me that I cant run a webserver with a dynamic ip from my isp... >

    Re: My Slow Server

I'm having troulbe getting my web server working. After a while I found the virtual host was set to :443 so I changed that to :80 and I'm restarting right now (just restarting the service never seems to work). I have my router set to forward to port 80 now so hopefully I can get it to work. One thing that bugs me, the thing must you SSL to connect or it just can't access the page. How do I configure my system to allow regular connections?

443 is ssl port so putting it on 80 should fix that.

    Re: My Slow Server

I think mySQL's speed is mostly determined by hard drive speed. On a 486 the hard drive speed is pretty slow. That could be why. The page didn't load for me BTW

Do you ABSOLUTELY need PHP-Nuke? If not, if you just want to do a simple page like me (http://darkhost.mine.nu:81), use the boa webserver instead (apt-get install boa). It's MUCH lighter and it's extremely fast. For something simple, Boa is very very nice.
