    Compile kernel for power down?

I compiled 2.4.13-ac8 and works great with my RH7.2 Duron system. However, I cannot make it power down the system as the stock 2.4.7-10 did.

What are the options in make xconfig that will enable it?

All ACPI/APM stuff is currently enabled (hoping it will work) as modules.

    Thanks for your time.

Why would you power down your box ;D ?

Out of curiosity, are your modules loading?

Re: Compile kernel for power down?

the box needs to powerdown at night (and wakes up using RTC and it then wakes up all other boxes) due to the whining noise. Not loud at all but the wife wont take it

    Code:
    Dec 12 23:37:40 proteus kernel: BIOS-e820: 00000000077f0000 - 00000000077f8000 (ACPI data)
    Dec 12 23:37:40 proteus kernel: BIOS-e820: 00000000077f8000 - 0000000007800000 (ACPI NVS)
Dec 12 23:37:44 proteus kernel: ACPI: Core Subsystem version [20010831]
Dec 12 23:37:44 proteus kernel: ACPI: Subsystem enabled
I presume this means they do load right? ???

Re: Compile kernel for power down?

Can you load acpi and see what happens?

Re: Compile kernel for power down?

Well acpi carries a lot of modules. I loaded two and this is how they show up in lsmod:

    ospm_button 2336 0 (unused)
    ospm_busmgr 11680 0 [ospm_button]

no idea what they do though.

Re: Compile kernel for power down?

I am no acpi guru or anything but maybe you should have compiled them in instead of having them load as modules. Maybe recompile and see what you get? Unless someone has some better advice.

Re: Compile kernel for power down?

i'd say put apm in your kernel for real (not module) and then no acpi and see if that works

thats only cause i've never used acpi and just use apm. check your bios to enable/disable one or the other. or maybe it only supports one.

Re: Compile kernel for power down?

mine powers down normally - i do have apm in the kernel and not as a module, also i have advanced power setup stuff.
