    KDE on Mandrake Linux

    Hello all!

I finally got Mandrake Linux 8.1. Anyway, for the first couple times I I logged into KDE. Everything worked perfectly. Then, earlier today, the fonts became really really small. You can't even read them. I can change everything but the desktop fonts to be readable. Even so, it doesn't save the configuration. And size 64 font in linux looks like size 20 in Windows. When I log into Root, it looks exactly the same. Does anyone know why? And how I can fix this? GNOME and Windows Maker work perfectly....

Feel free to IM me on AIM! I'll be on most of the day....

I tried gnome and window maker. Both of them looked perfect. It's just KDE giving me a headache.

I've had that happen to me with KDE though I can't remember what I did to fix the problem.

Have you tried the bug-reports at ? You may find someone else with the same problem and a posted solution.

You could try using TrueType fonts (if you haven't already) and see if that helps.

    Create new font path

    mkdir /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType

Copy fonts from X:\Windows\fonts to newly created directory

    cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType

    /usr/sbin/ttmkfdir > fonts.scale

In /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, add the TrueType font path

    Section "Files"
    RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb"
    ModulePath "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules"
    FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType"
    FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled"
    FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled"
    FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled"
    FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi"
    FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi"
    FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc"
    FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1"
    FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID"
    FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ghostscript"

    Hope that helps.

I use KDE 2.2.1 with a G450 and 21" Trinitron monitor running at 1800x1440 and the fonts look fantastic. Much better than anything in Windows.
