    Got a new modem

Picked up a U.S. Robotics 56k Performance Pro modem from Compusa today for a 100 bucks. Kinda spendy but atleast it will work with Linux.

Question is what is the best way to set up a ppp connection to my isp? Should I use a GUI tool? If so what tool? Or should I just configure it manually?

    Re: Got a new modem

Back in the day, when I didnt have a job and only could do dialup - not broadband - I used wvdial. I just couldnt figure out pppd. I hoestly would never get it to work. Wvdia, otoh, simple to edit and made the scripts for me, and would connect at a good speed.

Try that. I am sure they still package that with most distros. RedHat, Slack, SuSE all did. Dunno about Debian and Mandrake. Never really used them back then.

I second that Wvdial is great. I am using it in Debian, I am pretty sure I compiled it but it was so easy.
