Last weekend I tried to upgrade my Debian Stable to testing. Everything went super until I tried to run startx. It returned command not found. I've been searching and thinking about it all week, but I can't seem to figure it out. At first I thought the x-server was borked, but it's there and loading. Then I tried fooling around with Gnome, but that seems to be OK too.
I know this can't be hard to fix, but I'm not sure where to look next. Any ideas?

Did you configure X? Its a radical upgrade from stable to testing as far as X goes so you may want to reconfigure X and if the package isnt there at all just apt-get install task-x-window-system or apt-get install task-x-window-core if you want just the core files.

Ok, Itried to re-configure X, but that also returns command not found. So, I tried to apt-get install task-x-window-system, but that returns a broken package (using US debian server testing). So tried to dl' the broken depends first (rstart & rstartd). But I can't seem to connect to the server. It tells me that "something wicked" happened to the connection.
Now what? Or am I way toofar up the creek without a paddle or boat?

What I did with X was get the stuff directly from xfree86.org when i upgraded to xfree86.org, it worked wuite well. i know it is not a package, bit it should be an option.

Here is the sources.list I use and that I used to upgrade from stable to testing.
I would apt-get remove your current xwindows stuff and then I would just use these sources list to upgrade to testing version of X. But, I would do a apt-get update , apt-get dist-upgrade to make sure you upgraded everything. Then, apt-get your xwindows system.
Yeah those are the sources that I'm using. And thats the way I went about trying to upgrade to testing. I will try to do remove X and then re-install. If that can't cure it I will go to XFree86.org and try it that way.# See sources.list(5) for more information, especialy
