    cannot determine the mouse protocol

    I got stuck with this problem under Peanut Linux. I have a serial mouse, working with COM1, and so I set it up. X server works well.
    The box says exactly
    Mouse 0: Protocol: "auto"
    Mouse 0: Core Pointer
    Mouse 0: Button 3
    (EE) Mouse 0: cannot determine the mouse protocol

    As you may imagine, mouse does not work, it does not move from where it is (in the center of the screen). That's not very funny with Enlightenment, as many things depend on the mouse (yeah, I can switch the desktops yet). Any idea?

    hello,
    what does the pointer section of /etc/X11/XF86Config look like? and do you have it on /dev/ttyS0 (com 1) ?
    can ya tell us what ls -l /dev/ | grep mouse gives?

    Protocol = "IMPS/2"

    in your XF86Config, it prolly says Protocol = "auto" somewhere, change it.

    Re: cannot determine the mouse protocol

    Finally I got it!

    I'm sorry, but when doing the mouse setup I could chose between serial mouse and others, with Microsoft among them. This is the one I had tho chose, not because I have a Microsoft mouse, but because you have to take it if you have an elder serial mouse (as I do- it's a Yakumo).
    Sometimes it makes sense to read the help text when setting up.

    I had a similar problem, too. I kept specifying one thing, when the text said I should do something else. It definitely helps to read twice, setup once! Of course, I never take my own advise, so I always end up learning the hardway!
