    LILO

    hi all

redhat 7.2 on i386 - i chose not to install lilo on this machine when i installed the os, so i've been booting off a floppy. i've now decided i'd rather boot off the hard disk. there is no /etc/lilo.conf on this machine. is there any way to install lilo onto the master boot record after i've skipped this option during the initial install?

    thanks
    p.

    hello,
sure there is - install the lilo rpm and make a lilo.conf file - there will be a man page for it and there are truckloads of good examples on the web, if need on to look at let me know.

When you get your lilo.conf set up, remember to /sbin/lilo before you reboot.

It's essential. I wasted 3 or 4 hours because I forgot to on my laptop. Had to get and learn grub and everything.

/sbin/lilo now sits in my shutdown script It takes a little longer to shut down, but you'll boot back up again.
