mandrake 6.x is very old and probably doesn't have support for ur hardware
I am installing Mandrake Linux 6.5 I cannot get this thing up for some reason. Most of my hardware is fairly new. Alot of times the install crashes while attempting to mount the paritions but when it doesnt I have trouble configuring my monitor. I got from a friend of mine, no manual and also nothing is written on it; no brand name or anything. XP tells me that it is 60hertz and It seems to be able to handle most resolutions without trouble but during the install it wants to know the synch range I do not remeber if it wants the horizontal or the vertical. The options are stuff like 30-40 50-70 or something. Every configuration i try it says is no good I end up skiping it and then while booting Linux crashes.
It was a bunch of letters like CS C5 A8 and such at the bottom of the screen and sometimes(during other installs) the screen goes black after displaying 3 errors(i couldnt read the errors the screen went black too quickly). Any ideas here I have also a CD of RedHat but I have the same problems during their install, i am currently downloading Debian and have also tried Beehive but there install instructions kinda suck. Is there anyway to find out what I need to know to configure my monitor and how can I get Linux to run?

Hi Brett
yukI am installing Mandrake Linux 6.5
If this is your first go at linux I would strongly consider getting a more recent version. MD6.5 is... what... 3 years old. You will not like what you see and I bet MD 8.1 SuSE 7.3 RH 7.2 will all install without any problems.
if you need a more up-to-date distro i have a bunch of them and i could copy one for you and mail it to you.
i have mandrake 7.0, 8.0 , slackware 8.0, debian take your pick.
email me if your interested.
