np. Thanks though mjb0314. I've already sent out my defective board and I'm going to be ordering the MSI board sometime next week. If I have probs with that one I'll probably assume its a Linux prob and try all of the suggestions you guys mentioned.
I might have a solution for your problem (I hope!!)
This bug has already been mentioned at serveral sights.
Go here:
http://www.gentoo.org
About half way down the page, they mention a bug in the Athlon CPU that affects 2.4 kernels.
I'm not sure if this is causing you problems, but the fix they mention won't hurt anything.
Hope this helps!!
Edit: My apologies if this has already been mentioned in this thread, I'm at work and don't have time to read all of the replies.

I think you'll like that board, it seems to be very stable. That was the reaon I mentioned Fuzzy Logic. I had my Duron 600 running at 706 Mhz when I chickened out, and it never whimpered.np. I've ordered my MSI board and it runs great, though I only use that box for a bit. CPU temps are a bit high (159-164F) so I'm worried about it and I need to get a few more fans to bring the temps down a bit. Other than that no probs when I run that box.
All hail MSI!!! ;D![]()
way to go praetorian, im glad u got it all worked out.![]()
That's great! I just used the "Live Bios" feature last weekend for the first time- it's slicker than der guts on a doorknob! ;D
Live Bios? I dont think I've used it. The only thing special I'm using is the D-Bracket.
Live Bios comes on the driver disks that come with your board. If you want the latest version, go to MSI's website. Go to "support" and it will have a "Live Update" download. Download the software, and you can update your board drivers, or your BIOS from the desktop. The downside is it only works in Windows, but it's a lot easier than flashing your BIOS the old way.
I run an Athalon 900 on some freaky inexpensive mb. (Fry's BYO system). Anyway I had the same problem the other day except I never saw a big D in the middle of my screen. After not being able to login as root or su I pretty much gave up on RH7.2 and reinstalled. Since I am a nub when Linux is concerned (Please do not break the flamethrowers out) but I let RH7.2 install do the configurations. I don't mess with a thing other than telling it what to install. I have not had many problems although I just grabbed 2.4.9-31 last night from RH and it was an athalon kernel this time but source was i386.
P. You might try the basic steps:
Open the case and reinsert your cards especially the ram.
It might also be the ram chip themselves my BYO needed the lifetime warranty stuff instead of the ones that were about 20 dollars less.
Okay so I am not a troubleshooter really but it is a thought.
Ras
Hey, thanks Ras. I never thought of that before. Maybe my vid card or ram wasn't fully inserted, but now I'll never know as the board is gone.
But, I really do think it was a prob with the hdd controler cause of my problem with my hdd disappearing from the bios.
Heh, I've mentioned that about how many times now? :P (not pokin' fun. I just thought of how many times I've said that.)
