Hey, there is nothing wrong with having two kernels....

I currently have 4 kernels on my box...

    Thank you :P

I read a couple of articles on kernel compiling, including the one in LinuxVodoo and the HowTo. However, after compiling, my machine won't boot to the new kernel >
The screen just flashes a few times and stays black, without any activity. I will play with it tonight and probably make anew thread.
    Thanks for the help, guys!

Does your system automatically boot into Xwindows?

Sounds to me like what happens when you boot to X and X is broken. You might have disabled something in the kernel config that you need for X to work (vid card drivers or something).

Remember, always read the help for each option in the kernel config before deciding whether to enable or disable it (unless you already know what you're doing, but you don't )

I read everything I could find. ..Actually I noticed that there were some discrepancies on the steps from compiling (nothing major I guess...) between the different articles, *My system was never configured to boot to XWindows, so I guess that rules it out. *I am not getting even the boot posts where it checks the hardware. Actually, I erased my linux, thinking I may had messed something up, installed Slackware from scratch and compiled 2.4.18, and now I am just getting that flash and nothing else.
