Looking for a new CMS for my website... suggestions?

Well, I have changed my website into something with a little more purpose than I used to have. My friends and I play this great little indie game called the Killing Floor. It's based on the UT2004 engine, so it runs under linux using wine or cedega (although I play it under windows for the extra performance). My Ubuntu server now runs my website, and my Killing Floor server (and does so remarkably well). The site is now a sort of "clan" website.

I have changed my CMS from e107 (which for some reason was having issues with downloads and user configurations) to glFusion, which is another open source CMS, using PHP, AJAX, and MYSQL. It took a little time getting used to everything, but is a very fast and complete package. The ajax runs smoothly as well, and it has some nice little effects when things are loading/downloading. Theme customization and changing were very nice. It also has built in spam protection, and uses all sorts of methods for verification of users and visitors to the site. Overall, I am very happy with it at the moment.

I have never heard of glFusion before. Thanks for putting the info up about it beez. I will have to check it out closer. I like to tinker with CMS systems, thats how I originally found Joomla, another CMS. Its nice but has its downfalls.

I don't know if you are aware of the site, but try http://opensourcecms.com

They have heaps of CMS's and other php software and you can actually try them on the site. You even get admin access too! A great way to try before you buy!

I have heard of opensourcecms.com before, and I have also used cmsmatrix.org also. The main thing with those sites is that its hard to find what you are looking for. I have spent hours testing and evaluating different packages, and there are still hundreds that I haven't looked at yet.

There used to be a 'wizard' on CMSMatrix that would allow you to answer some questions and get a smaller subset of choices that greatly decreased the amount of sifting you had to do to find a good cms along the lines of what you are looking for. It has since vanished and the closest I have found is a search that doesn't work very well.

Glad to hear that you are liking glFusion, it looks like a solid offering. I am interested in hearing more about it after you have had a chance to work with it more.

Well, one thing that I am really happy with is all the security. It comes with a plugin called BadBehavior2 and it has been really good at keeping some bots away from the site (94 in just 3 days). It also gives you lots of detail about the banned attackers (things like their IP address and what they were trying to do). It has already banned people that have tried to use javascript exploits to hack into the server, and it has even showed me the code they were trying to use. Kinda makes me a little scared, because e107 did none of this, and makes me wonder whats already on the server.

Joomla 1.6 is on the horizon and looking better than ever. The changelog lists just about every annoyance I have with the CMS right now, and I use it quite often. I am still getting into direct development on the Joomla framework, but as an admin I think the 1.6 branch is going to bring Joomla where it needs to be.

Probably not what you would use for a clan or personal site, but well worth looking into if you are doing a company site.
