    SkipJack

    I'm pleased with this Red Hat beta.

    Kernel 2.4.18-0.4
    KDE3 rc3
    Gnome1.4 fully updated, with evolution
    XFree86 4.2
    Port of Debian's alternative system

    It's just plain cool! everything works excellent!

    But no ReiserFS :
    Yeah, us Red Hat people don't like the idea of total data loss..

    Reiser isn't stable enough to pass firetests (QA) there for it's not included/supported.

    OTOH, ext3 is and does. IN benchmarks, the only time that reiser can == /beat ext3 is when dealing with a huge number of small files. Other than that, ext3 wins everytime. Plus ext3 can be mounted/accessed/written to as ext2, so recovery disks are easy to use.

    And yes, on my desktop, skip seems stable enough to replace 7.2, which is what I did (;

    Havn't tried much. I don't run kde, I only run fluxbox. But I recompiled the CVS version of licq and it works great....

    Dont take this the worng way, but Reiser sucks in comparison to ext3. I cant speak fo the others (XFS, etc), but reiser sucked for me and aa few others. I was surprised that ext3 actually worked. I never saw a functional journaling system before !!

    Try ext3 -- even on a spare box. Its WELL worth your time and effort. I swear by it.
