How to check internet speed?

I am on Fedora 7 32 bit, but can any one tell me the command that can be typed in a terminal in order to check the speed of the internet connection?

ethtool eth0
mii-tool eth0

That will give the link speed. Do you want the maximum download speed from your ISP?

The second command does not work. I want to know all about the speed such as download speed and actual speed as provided by the ISP. Thanks a lot....

Try the Speed Test website. It has a simple browser based test.

There more tools available on website freely for internet speed testing

use of these tool very easy

& with "mii-tool" we can check the physical link of ethernet cable

Hello here in the uk our ISPs quote our speed but it never seems that accurate. I use stuff like speed test to give me some idea.

The CNET test is seriously borked BTW, not even close to my actual rates
