Cron Jobs!

I am a little confused about cron jobs set by users.Can anyone explain, how it works?

Try these two links:

1. Ubuntu Help. Describes the use of cron and the /etc/cron.daily, /etc/cron.hourly etc. directories used by root.
2. Linux Forums. Goes into more detail about crontabs for individual users.

What exactly don't you understand? The trick with cron is that you should always use full path names or else scripts / programs may not be run and cron will not appear to work.

if u want to perform any work continuosly or regularly u can automate the tasks using cron jobs

for example everyday u want to see the diskuage and the users who had logged in then u can use cronjabs for this

# Minute Hour Day of Month Month Day of Week Command
# (0-59) (0-23) (1-31) (1-12 or Jan-Dec) (0-6 or Sun-Sat)
0 2 12 * 0,6 /usr/bin/find

this should be your crontab file entries

to make the cronjobs use this command crontab -e.

to display ur crontab file use the command crontab -l

this will take you to the cron file of the user. you can add entries to the particular user in that file.
