Thread: Help with compile errors

  1. #11
Type 'uname -a' and see if it mentions SMP at all. Also, how much swap space do you have, and what does 'cat /proc/meminfo' tell you? With 256M of RAM, if you are running X, and practically anything else, it wouldn't surprise me that it's complaining about being out of memory. Of course, if you aren't using X, or really much of anything else, there might be a bug in your compile.

Run 'uname -a' if it says "SMP" this means you have an SMP kernel.

Requesting a negative number makes me think it's an error in the code.

So even if it wasn't supposed to be negative...

    -77012715 = 0xFB68E115

    which unsigned is:
    4217954580 bytes

    or ~ 3.93Gigabytes...
63,000 bugs in the code, 63,000 bugs,
ya get 1 whacked with a service pack,
now there's 63,005 bugs in the code!!

Ok, a couple of answers here.

    Running uname -a showed me:

    Code:
    Linux arda 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Tue Feb 12 05:41:34 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
As for the RAM, my laptop has 512MB

I'm still not sure about SMP kernels. I googled it, and the results came back discussing multi-core cpus (mine is not) and hyperthreading. lshw showed the following for the CPU:
    Code:
     *-cpu
              description: CPU
              product: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1500MHz
              vendor: Intel Corp.
              physical id: 6
              bus info: cpu@0
              version: 6.9.5
              slot: None
              size: 1500MHz
              capacity: 1500MHz
              width: 32 bits
              clock: 400MHz
capabilities: fpu fpu_exception wp vme de pse tsc msr mce cx8 sep mtrr
pge mca cmov pat clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 tm pbe up est tm2 cpufreq
    There is always hope.
