If you have spinrite, use that.
If not, or secondly, use fsck off of a livecd to check the drive out for soft errors.

I'm pretty sure I know why this started happening. While I was in Europe with my laptop, the power converter and my laptop's AC adapter were not playing well together, causing my laptop to spontaneously shut itself off.
So, that's not good.
Since then, YouTube, etc. freeze completely. I have reinstalled Flash Player to no avail.
Much obliged,

Thanks, but I do not have spinrite. How do I update Firefox? How do I find out when 2.0.0.7 is going to be available on the Ubuntu repositories?
