I have cups on my printer server and on MY box I have cups ant it prints to my printer server.. Do you get it?
Hi All,
I ahve sups working great on my redhat 7.2 box. now the wife wants to print and i may like to print to my from the debian box. So:
1. How do i let the RH box allow other printers print to it - i would like to use ipp or lpd - not samba. all boxes are linux based. (even the wifey's ;D)
2. How do I specify how to set up the printer on the client machines? I tried lpadmin -p printer -something -v ipp://bugs/printers/lp0 -m something.mmd and it seemed to set up but i get a 'not authorized message.

Printer Server
(Using Cups)----*Printer
Both boxes use cups. My Box has Cups and all it does is it prints to the printer server. Basicaly it forwards my info to print to my printer server. Get it now
well what you are doing is exactly what i would like to do!!
but i am unsure of how to go about it, do you know how you set that up? did you modify /etc/cupsd.conf and what command did you use to set up the printer which was needed to print to the server?
What I did Is I install cups and I used the web pased tool to setup My Box so that when I print it would connect to the other printer via ipp.
hey - thanks much - i have been trying that with little success...
Thanks again gmoreno![]()
What you need to do is to go to the webtool click on add a printer...
Type in the Name, Location and Description.. click continue
It then with ask for Device and give you a pull down menu. Select and select ipp.
and type in the url. I have http://192.168.0.5:631/printers/lp it should be http://hostname:631/printers/name
Any questions feel free to contact me
Yea I set up my remote Epson C80 on a Win98 box using the Cups administration tool without many problems at all. The cups drivers for linux (2880x1440) even allow printing at a higher resolution than the Windows drivers (2880x720). Kick ass!
