Cool Saving data to external hdd with ubuntu 7.04 feisty fawn

    Hi,
having a bit of a problem at the moment, i am trying to backup my data to an external hdd, but i get an error message saying that i do not have the read write to this. It has been setup with Windows xp and it is mounted to ntfs format. It should not make any different as though ubuntu is also mounted the same way. Can anyone help please.

    Ntfs

You're better off using FAT32 for the file system on that external drive. NTFS write support in Linux is not native and certainly not proven. So, for a backup device you should definitely use FAT32.

That is I assume a drive that you will use on other computers with other OS's. If you will only be using this drive in Linux then you should choose a Linux FS for that drive.
