Hi,

When your system boots, if the boot loader is grub, it shows a message:
Code:grub loading stage 2 ...
This will be over soon, and then I can ...
If /etc/grub.conf file is present and in that file if u find stanzas describing the operatin systems u have [ie. stanzas starting with "title" ], then u are using grub.
in /boot/grub directory is present then also u r using grub.
but easiest of all, while booting, on the O.S. selection screen of the boot loader u'll find the grub or lilo alonwith version.
its better to use grub for a no. of reasons. its the boot loader of choice for now and future.
get deeper info. frm net.
