Well, for madwifi, theres an Exelent description on hte madwifi site.
As it seems, you need to install the linux-restricted-modules-$(uname -r) instead of madwifi
Got an old Dell Dimension 8200 that I'm trying to get Ubuntu server installed on. Installation went fine and I'm very much blindly poking around trying to get the on-board NIC working so I can at least download a desktop environment.
It's never easy, but I'm not giving up.
Kernel is 2.6.20-15-server
lspci shows:
- Ethernet controller: Accton Technology Corporation EN-1216 Ethernet Adapter (rev 11)
- Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5005G 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
Ideally I would like to just get the wireless Atheros card working, but I did not find madwifi in my distro ("locate madwifi" yielded nothing).
I saw mention of a "tuilip driver" here to try on the wired NIC:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...t=2015&cat=123
But I'm not sure how to install that either.
Right now my box is utterly disconnected to the known universe and all I have is a command line install of Ubuntu Server.
Much obliged,
JJJ

Don't worry Ma'am. We're university students, - We know what We're doing.

oh, forgot to mention, the "tulip driver" in question could be the tulip related found in:
"Device drivers" -> "Network Device support" -> "Ethernet 10 or 100 Mbit" -> "Tulip family network device support" -> "DECchip Tulip (dc2114x) PCI support "
If you're not that much into comipiling your own kernel, you can see if it exists by trying:
# modprobe tulip
If this is doing it for you, you can add it to /etc/modules
