    SuSE 8.0: YaST Online Update

    Hi ,

Sorry about the length of this :-(

This (which gives more info about my problem) is based on a letter I sent to SuSE support though I sincerely doubt it will qualify within the 90 days installation support that I thought sounded so good when I bought a copy of the distro.

I can't get YOU (YaST Online Update) working. I get this error both at work and at home and the one at work particularly is a very standard install so I figure it has to be something others get and not just me. I have tried to get support in both the SuSE Linux E maillist and on line at a number of bulletin boards with no luck.

The error message I get is:

    Connection to YOU server failed.
Try to connect to another SuSE server

If (as has been suggested on one forum) I change the expert settings to HTTP I get:

Cannot get the patches from the server.
    Try another SuSE FTP/HTTP server.

I've attached (as a reply) my /var/lib/YaST/update.inf file that one of the SuSE SDB articles hints it might be (though that was aimed at SuSE 7.3).

I have set proxies in several places i.e. in Konqueror/KDE, in YaST2 (System Sysconfig Editor System Proxy) to http://proxycfg.lon.globalone.net/shell-cgi/proxy.pl can successfully reach the Internet using the proxy.

The following is the content of my /etc/rc.config:
