    How to use core dump

    1. When you have an application running and suddenly the application crash or not responding. What kind of signal apart from kill would be the best to send to the application in order for it to start responding.

    2. How can someone use the core dump file to analyse the reason or cause of the above problem.

    Provided you have the debugger gdb and source files as well, use something like:
    gdb <application> <core_dump>

    Then just use where to show where it has died. This will tell you the line and show you the source code. After that it usually dawns on you what's wrong e.g. pointer out of bounds, etc...
