MRTG help

i downloaded MRTG , unzip it and when i run ./configure i get following error

checking for gdImageGif in -lgd... no
checking for gdImagePng in -lgd... no
checking for gdImagePng_jpg in -lgd... no
checking for gdImagePng_jpg_ft in -lgd... no
checking for gdImageGd in -lgd... no
checking gd.h usability... no
checking gd.h presence... no
checking for gd.h... no

I was trying to install MRTG for monitoring SQUID...

Sounds like you are missing some dependencies, probably libgd. You could try and install that, but it might still lead you to other dependencies issues.

Is there a reason why you want to install from source, instead of using precompiled packages for your system?

Which version of OS are you using, try using FC4 or FC6. You could install the whole package as the other forum user was telling. Try install the package using

% yum install mrtg.

Do let the forum know if this helps, am using mrtg for sometime sure will help you out.

Both Trickster and Deepak have excellent solutions.
It is much easier to install MRTG from a formated distro for your version, but the yum program should take care of any dependencies at install time.
My preference has always been to use a prepared distro (Last time I did it was for RH7.3 -- which will tell you how long it's really been . But that said, those boxes are still running today -- all 20 of them). I haven't used MRTG in a few years but did most of the development work at my job to implement a few years ago......
