There has been a few members who have been spamming the forums with links to unrelated sites. Moderators have been tagging messages for deletion. This is good practice, but also leaves the post and the link to the site the spammer is trying to promote.
I've permanently deleted a couple posts, but before continuing, I wanted to know how the forum members feel these types of posts should be handled.
Should we delete the posts and warn members their accounts will be disabled after the next entry?
How do other forums you are members of handle this?
If it's purely SPAM, just delete it. No need to warn, send PM, whatever.
They may probably be gone anyway since they are smart enough to know that once they spam the site, they are going to have to deal with the complaints. Then ban their IP for re-registaration. If you need help to look after those, you should ask for volunteers from the members (such as from current MODs).
Personally, every sites I admin, I don't tolerate Spam. One strike and you are gone.

Almost every other morning, I see someone who just registered and posted SPAM as his first post. I usually try to delete the messages.
I know some forums require that the first post of a user be approved by a mod before it is posted. That would prevent someone from registering just to spam. However, it probably would turn off some people...

I think that we are all on the same page with the **** posts that are advertising porn and viagra. We all know how to acquire these items without aid. So **** em.
However, I think another forum for linux related plugs can go. I personally would like to know of new businesses related to linux servers, desktops, commercial apps, and games.
But to hell with the spam. Its crap, and thanks for those that beat me to em.
OK. Let's make moderators permanently delete SPAM and send me a note to disable the user accounts in violation of the policy.
