Just to make sure I am thinking along the same lines. You don't want it asking for the login information when using the server name?
Hi,
I seem to be having a weird problem. In a workgroup environment (don;t ask) i have installed my first Windows 2003 server R2. The server has been added to the workgroup.
There is no WINS and no A/D DNS.
Here is the problem....
when i try and access the server via \\ip address\share i am able to get into the share with no problem and it does not ask me for credentials. If i access the same server via \\servername\share it than prompts me for credentials.
I am able to ping the server via its servername and the fact that it is asking me for credntials when i go via its servername tells me there is no resolution problem.
No firewall enabled/installed, Netbios over TCP/IP also enabled and all part of same Workgroup.
What am i missing??
Thanks

Exactly....it shouldn't be asking me for credentials anyways. It should act as it does when i go \\ipaddress\share (no prompt)Originally posted by RickDev@Dec 8 2006, 01:19 PM
