Window Manager?

Hey all, just wondering what window manager you use and why.

SimplyMEPIS comes with KDE default, but I'm starting to try others out. I've played with Gnome before, but looking for better performance so won't be messing with it. I looked at Openbox a little bit, but had trouble finding help on configuring it, so am starting to install and try out others. Next up Fluxbox and Afterstep.

I like KDE. I've yet to try the latest Gnome environment, but I've heard it's pretty slick looking (but maybe doesn't have the tools that KDE does for complete desktop use?). Possibly Unbuntu will run on one of my boxen, and then I'll see for myself.

Just updated to Kubuntu 5.10 with KDE 3.5. I am liking it. The updated wasn't bad, had some wierdness updating the X server. Overall I am not seeing alot of difference between it and KDE 3.4.

Remember! Linus advocates KDE. ANd everytime you use Gnome they'll kill a kitten. :wink:

Using KDE on My main computer with Mepis.
Using ICEWM on my IMAC with Ubuntu.
As for my server its just command line.

I used to use Gnome but I think its too bloated for all the things it doesn't do.

Wildheart, how has it been running Linux on a PowerPC? I was always worried about finding programs for something other than an x86. I have an old PowerPC laying around, but was hesitant to try and install Linux on it. One, because I am pretty lazy and two because I wasn't sure how compiling apps would go with it.

Its not very different running on a powerpc. if your using apt-get its pretty easy. all the regular apps (firefox,gftp,bittorrent,openoffice,xmms) are already in binary so there isn't much compiling needed. And even if there was it wouldn't be any different then i386 compiling.

Grab a Ubuntu PPC ISO and try it out.
