In XP-Pro all you have to do is change the User rights for the folder. Now, I don't know about Mac's, at all, but if you have the same account with the same password on both machines, it may work. Once again, I don't know anything about Mac's but if you have two identical user accounts and set user permissions on the one machine, it should carry over. Hope this helps.
The account retriction will be the same for any system trying to access that folder (Macs included).
I am not sure what you mean. Windows Rights assignment mean squat to Linux and Macs and the other way around.
You can encrypt the folder, though. Encrypted files remain encrypted across platforms.
