If i want to upgrade to windows xp pro, do i need to have a pervious version of windows actually installed on the computer, or can i just have an old windows disk in my possession?
i really need xp, but cant afford a full version, i have copies of win98, and ME, but dont have them installed. and want to avoid installing it if possible.
I know in the past ive seen other versions of windows just ask you to insert ur old windows disk to verify ur old copy, is this the case with xp pro?
Please, if u know the answer to this it would be greatly appreciated
First off, you don't need Pro, XP Home should do you, second I live in the Toronto Canada area and can buy XP Home OEM (other words not in the pretty Microsoft box) for $80 Canadian which is pretty good...What ever you do DON'T use Windows ME, that will doom you for sure and Windows 98 is just to damn old...If you said Windows 2000 then maybe...Heres a thought, why don't you down load the Beta of Windows Vista, its good for a year I think at least till you get the cash together to get either XP or Vista...Again DON'T use "Windows ME" its buggy as hell...Anyway I'm no expert so wait for one of our Computer experts to respond to this thread...I'm only a wanna-be nerd...
EDIT: your computer specs can also help determine what Operation system you should be using...
