I completed the installtion and cinfiguration of Win SPP 2003 and enabled the content sources for File Shares. I also created a site under the portal but don't know how to create a Search box on this site. I would like to created a search box so that I can test weather the search feature is crawling files and indexing them. I also would like to know if I was supposed to install a SQL server on this single server SPP implementation.

    Thanks in advance.... ZK

Here are some links I found that may help. it does appear you will need SQl but I could be wrong. I have had limited use of SharePoint.

This link shows how to create a search box on the site that uses the search results from Sharepoint Portal Server
