language bar not showing on task bar

i'm having problems with language bar not showing up on task bar. i have win-xp-sp2 with latest updates. i have installed language support. under control panel/languages/details /preferences, language bar is greyed out. i have tried several times installing and uninstalling the language options, but to no avail. the shift+alt keys work and switches the languages, but the EN and FR in task bar is not showing up. can someone help?

resolved:
it turned out that there are 2 "advance" options on different panels.
before you choose language tab, there's an advance option there, and after you choose language, then details, there's an advance option there.
this user had checked "turn off advanced text services" box, and it was preventing preferences /language bar button and properties of the language from showing up. once, i unchecked that box, the language bar appeared.
