On my computer using windows 2000 Pro, OE6 and on my last windows update I was directed to Microsoft update v6. Decided to try this new v6 update and the search time was too long, and reverted back to windows update v4 and again even without the extended search took as much or longer a time.

My average Express search time with Windows Update
    is seven [8] minutes.

I performed a clean boot with selective startup,no programs in the background, and the "time was much less".

Please help me out of this mess.

Just so I am understanding this, you mean the search on the update site?
