XP Volume Icon

I am running XP professional with all the service packs including sp2. I have lately lost my volume icon from the taskbar. The sounds play but the icon is gone. Yes, I have gone to the control pannel, checked, unchecked and rechecked the show icon box. I have made sure the taskbar properties "hide inactive icons" box is unchecked.

I have also uninstalled the sound card (driver) and reinstalled with no success. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Sndvol.32.exe file with no luck. I am also running Office 2003 and am unable to play recordings under Notes in Outlook. Any ideas? Thanks

One thing at least you can do is go to MS Technet -Support Knowledge Base and search for your issue or email their product support centre.

I met the same situation here.

Then I checked MS Technet -Support Knowledge Base.

It gives two solution:
one reboot
two uninstall UNPN universal plugin and unplug
in add/remove windows component.
But I can not find this component in my XP....

Why?
