Hey all, I have managed to get a server running on my internet connection. You can visit it by going to http://ttgale.dnsdojo.org Can anyone see any error that they think might compromise my security? Unfortunately, the computer is running Windows 2000 and XAMP. THe problem is that it is one of those microcomputers, and I can't manage to install any distro on it. I have tried Fedora (1,2,3,4), Kanotix, Ubuntu, Gnoppix, and even vanilla debian, but the install always fails when it comes to loading modules or even the kernel, so I am stuck with Win2k until then.
Oh well, give it a look and tell me your comments/recommendations

Yeah, the website is for a business that I am starting . I plan to drive to peoples houses and fix their computers on the spot. Anyway, what you should hopefully see is a php-fusion site. THe problem is that I cannot test it at home, because my router blocks all connection attempts at ttgale.dnsdojo.org from computers within the loca network. I can however use the 127.0.0.1 to see, but it is still good to see whether or not it is on the net :S

I have some space left.

I have shut down the server momentarily. I need to think more about security me thinks. Anyway, I'll ask you guys to check it out again soon!
xampp has a security setup, it pretty easy to follow however it was never meant to be a production server just a testing one. but it does the job.
This whole webserver has annoyed me a little. First of all, I can't seem to get Linux working on it at all. I admit that I am using a weird micro pc that was made for purely office clients, but I have never had a party with Linux on any hardware until this machine. I think that there must be something in there that doesn't let the Linux kernel load, because no matter what Distro I use (i have tried Debian 3.2, 3.1, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Kanotix, Knoppix, Gentoo, Fedora 1,2,3,4, Simply Mepis, and even VidaLinux. All of which, have managed to produce and error and automatically reboot at either the install, or the first reboot when they load the kernel.
So I am stuck with dirty windows xp, and I feel like a traitorI feel like I am letting the team down. I must admit though, i did not purchase this windows, i pirated it, so its not that bad. I miss the stability of Linux, and I think that I could use it on the server, but its too late now, cause the server is now working to my liking, and I have people that have signed u for the site. Anyway, what do you think of the site?

I can sorta relate to what you saying about not being able to run linux, i had a hp machine(a main computer at one point), that wouldnt run linux. More than likely its propietary hardware.
Anyhow the site looks great, good luck with it, if you post the exact kernel error maybe there could be some more insight. Either way good luck. And dont feel bad about using xp, it may not bet the best os, but it can get the job done(in short intervals).
Yeah, I have noticed that it does silly stuff from time to time for no reason. For example, the other day, it automatically turned off the Apache, and the update client, hence my uptime stats. Anyway, it was weird, but it hasn't done it since.
