w00t! Nothing wrong with you dude. And you do love Ubuntu, doncha?
First of all, sorry for the guest post, but Opera never seems to remeber my login for this site. I got Linux workingHere's how I did it.
Turns out that I am not the only one on the net with the problem with this machine, but I am the only one that has managed to get Ubuntu running on it, as far as I can tell. I skimmed through the bios, disabled a couple of features for the Hard Drives, and voila, it booted the Ubuntu install. Seems to me that Compaq has fiddled around with the way the bios reports the hard drive status, because every time the Installation started, it would get errors when it tried to mount the filesystem. Anyway, I had that fixed, so the install went with no problems.
Now, I managed to get Xampp (known as lampp for linux users) on the machine with no problems. I then installed the uptime project client for Linux, followed by several attempts at getting something to automatically update my I.P for Dyndns.org. They did not seem to work for me (don't know why), but then I visited ubuntuguide.org, used the repositories they have on the site, and then just apt-get install ddclient and everything went fine, it even had a GUI to help me set it up! Anyway, so now I have returned from the dark side, and I am now a REAL sys admin!!! Woot!

Yeah, I use Ubuntu as my desktop on my main computer too. It is pretty crappy straight out of the box, but if you go to ubuntuguide.org and do some of the easy steps there, you can turn Ubuntu into one mighty desktop. One thing I really loved about Ubuntu was that I was able to install Nvidia drivers with absolutely no problems, just apt-get install nvidia-glx or something like that. Anyway, i am happy with the webserver, it requires less maintainence. Also, does anyone know how to get the yasuc (uptime project) client to update itself every so often? At the moment, I have to run a root terminal and enter "yasuc" to update my picture, so it is never as accurate as I would like. I do like seeing Linux as my OS instead of Windows XP though!

Thanks Wildheart! I managed to get it working, as you can probably tell by my little picture. I am really happy with the stability of the server, if you leave it on, it behaves and doesn't screw up. When I was running Windows XP, it just wouldn't work for more then a couple of hours at a time. The power of linux, and the help of foo prevails! Woot!
Sorry everyone, but those posts were mine. For some reason, I just can't seem to get my browser to remeber my login settings (yes, i have ticked the "Remember Me" box a thousand times). Anyway, I am happy with my server, it has been running for over 6 days now, more then triple the record i had with a windows server, and the best thing was that I am thinking about bringing my Linux gaming site over to the server. Woot! Long live the Linux revolution!

I know what you are thinking, but no, my server didn't crash. I added another 390mb RAM to speed up some things like mysql queries, and I also installed fluxbox as my default WM to take the load off the system.
