    Example of a 10Gb drive.

Multiply the drive size by 1000 three times.

    10 x 1000 = 10,000 (x 1000) = 10,000,000 (x 1000) = 10,000,000,000

To give you the full number of bytes on the drive.

Now divide 10,000,000,000 by 1024 three times, giving:

    (? 1024) = 9765625 Kb
    (? 1024) = 9536?74 Mb
    (? 1024) = 9?313 Gb

Now you know where the "lost" space has gone.
