Linux Rocks
While thats helpful, it doesn't answer my question.
Should work, but it'll reduce the performance a bit.
So after I install the HD on the new PC, is there any way to improve performance?Originally posted by genesis@Jan 7 2005, 05:09 PM

Well it is the hard drive that'll slow the computer down. You'll need a faster Hard drive to speed the computer up more.
Something like 8MB buffer.
How can you tell if a HHD has that? Also, will it completely slow it down, or only when retreiving files from the hard drive? Finally, how baly will it slow down?
Depends, if you do lots of archiving constantly then you will feel it. I would say use that HDD for now. I would wait for 16MB buffer hard drive to become a bit cheaper for my next hard drive upgrade. They have already started appearing in many stores so it won't be too long before they reach acceptable price. How can you tell if a HHD has that?
