I got my computer about 2 years ago, and ever since i clicked the launch button for MS Works Task Launcher, i have this little rectangle that always appears when i start my computer, and some times it gets annoying. If i click it and then clikc this other icon it gets bigger and shows sample pictures of animals. To get it off I have to make it big then right click it, then close it.

Is there anyway to make sure this does not automatically just appear on the middle right side of my computer screen?

You may have several options. Right click on it and see if there's an option something like "Settings" or "Disable at startup" and things along those lines. If it's a pain and don't want to go away, simply uninstall it.
