SYMPTOMS

If you try to access the Virtual Server Administration Web page on your Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 host computer, you receive the following error message in your browser window:

Access Denied

This symptom occurs after you install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) on your Virtual Server 2005 host computer.

CAUSE
This issue occurs because of enhanced security features that are introduced in Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows XP SP2.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods.

Method 1
Run the Virtual Server 2005 installation program after you install Windows Server 2003 SP1 or Windows XP SP2.

Note When you remove or reinstall Virtual Server 2005, virtual machine files and configuration information are not removed or changed.

Method 2
If you do not want to install Virtual Server 2005 again, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.
2. Expand Component Services, expand Computers, expand My Computer, and then expand DCOM Config.
3. Right-click Virtual Server, and then click Properties.
4. On the Security tab, click Customize under Launch and Activation Permissions, and then click Edit.
5. Under Group or user names, click Everyone, and then click to select the Allow check box next to Local Activation.
