Unable to Synchronize AvantGo After You Install ActiveSync 3.1

After you install ActiveSync version 3.1, users of AvantGo may no longer be able to synchronize Mobile Application Link channels to their Windows CE-based device, and you may receive the following error message during the synchronization process:

The version of AvantGo on this device is incompatible with the version of AvantGo on your computer. Please upgrade your device software and sync again.

The Mobile Application Link status under Information Type in the ActiveSync dialog box contains a "1 unresolved item" entry. Also, every time you try to Resolve items, you may receive the same error message.

This issue can occur if the AvantGo version 3.2 client software is not installed on your Windows CE-based device. AvantGo requires the following two components:

? The desktop computer client program. This provides the Synchronization Service Provider Mobile Application Link.
? The Windows CE client program. This displays the Mobile Application Link channels.

To resolve this issue, upgrade to version 3.2 of the AvantGo client program for your Windows CE-based device. Note that because Microsoft Pocket PC-based devices have the AvantGo 3.2 client built into the Read Only Memory (ROM), no upgrade is necessary for this type of device.
