After reading an article off Slashdot, Bram Cohen says Avalanche is just vaporware and some proposed stuff. Not completely unlike MS to beat their drum over nothing.

On a related note, anyone try out Microsofts new image editing/drawing software codenamed Acrylic? I wasn't impressed, give the The Gimp any day over that.

It's from Microsoft Research. Here's a link to the paper. Bear in mind that substantial amounts of research are incremental improvements/variants on existing ideas.

The paper was published at IEEE Infocom 2005, most papers published there are incremental successors to existing work. I know, because I'm submitting a paper to IEEE Infocom 2006.

There's been numerous similar ideas to Bittorrent already (some before Bittorrent, most likely). It's not evil just because it's come out of MS's research group. They've published the information on what they're working on so that others can verify their work.

right, its evil because it incorporates DRM.

Though I bet its something along the lines of what Morgan Freeman (the actor) is promoting to allow people to download first run movies at home (while they're still in the theater).
