After reading an article off Slashdot, Bram Cohen says Avalanche is just vaporware and some proposed stuff. Not completely unlike MS to beat their drum over nothing.
On a related note, anyone try out Microsofts new image editing/drawing software codenamed Acrylic? I wasn't impressed, give the The Gimp any day over that.

The paper was published at IEEE Infocom 2005, most papers published there are incremental successors to existing work. I know, because I'm submitting a paper to IEEE Infocom 2006.
There's been numerous similar ideas to Bittorrent already (some before Bittorrent, most likely). It's not evil just because it's come out of MS's research group. They've published the information on what they're working on so that others can verify their work.
