Once you have used Ubuntu, nothing else will ever work right.

I tried to install Gentoo Again today and it error out while it boots the kernel.
Some sort of zlib/fs error. I've heard great things about gentoo but I guess the only way I can install it is on my xbox. I'm getting the slackware iso's right now and tring them out.
As for Gentoo on my desktop, I think it was never meant to be.

Yeah, Gentoo took me a while to get up and running the first couple of time too. The first time I got it right, I danced around the office. I really felt like I had built the system from the ground up (which you almost do), but the tradeoff wasn't enough in my mind. Sure it was cool once I had it up and running but the install was prohibitive.
I spent almost a day getting my first gentoo up but i have to say it is worth it, great learning experience. I would recommend if you havent tried another cd try it, (a whole new iso image). Also make sure acpi is off that has seemed to cause a lot of problems. While gentoo runs stable and all i just dont feel it is meant to be a desktop system, emerge can take a long time, depending on software. I would recommend going through the gentoo forums, or possibly posting the exact error if you want to try it.
I just got ubuntu back the way I like it, so until I get onther server (hopefully soon) No formatting til just b4 Ubuntu 5.10 comes out.
