try libdvdcss2
also you can use "apt-cache showpkg" to get more info on a goven pkg

Totem said it was an encripted DVD and/or I was trying to play it without LIBDVDCSS. So the oldtimer did this:
root@ubuntuone:/home/bob # apt-get install libdvdcss
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Package libdvdcss is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package libdvdcss has no installation candidate
root@ubuntuone:/home/bob #
Now you will tell me what to do, please remember to type very slowly.
try libdvdcss2
also you can use "apt-cache showpkg" to get more info on a goven pkg

NOBODY reads my email
then who would want to anyway
just add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ testing main
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main
or commands
#nano /etc/apt/sources.list or #sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
or
#gedit /etc/apt/sources.list or #sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
add this to your repository
###MULTIMEDIA(libdvdcss, mplayer, w32codecs, etc.)###
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ testing main
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main
one or the other
load synaptic reload repository list, search libdvdcss mark for installation perspnally i find xine the best for dvds, but totem is great as well.
Find out where it is installed make sure the path is in your /etc/ld.so.conf file and you have done a ldconfig.
Anothere issue maybe the way totem was compile against a newer or older version of libdvdcss.
Or maybe dvd capabilitys were pulled like how suse does it.
I dont know i havent used a debian based distro in ages?
