    reg progress bar

    I have modified a backup script which backs up data to a cd using tar in red hat ent 4 .

    Is there a command wherein i can output the percentage of data being proceessed while the backup is being done.In other words a progress bar which displays the % .

    i tried using the bar command ,but m not succseeful.

    any ideas.

    if you use the 7zip compressor it gives you a procentile indicator by default.

    oh and superior compression but that's secondary for the issue at hand.
