    Question Apache virtual hosts and DNS!

    Hello!

    I have created a virtual host in apache:

    <VirtualHost 192.168.0.100:80>
    ServerName oct4doom1.com
    DocumentRoot "/webspace/oct4doom1.com/www/html"
    ServerAlias www.oct4doom1.com
    </VirtualHost>
    192.168.0.100 is my system's ip address and Listen is set to 80.

    I have made the following entry for it in default named.conf:

    zone "oct4doom1.com" IN {
    type master;
    file "db.oct4doom1.com";
    };
    and in /var/named i have the zone file db.oct4doom1.com:

    $TTL 86400
    @ IN SOA ns1.domain.com. admin.domain.com. (
    4 ; Serial
    28800 ; Refresh
    7200 ; Retry
    604800 ; Expire
    86400 ) ; TTL

    @ IN NS ns1.domain.com.
    @ IN NS ns2.domain.com.
    oct4doom1.com IN A 192.168.0.100
    www.oct4doom1.com. IN CNAME oct4doom1.com.
    ftp.oct4doom1.com. IN CNAME oct4doom1.com.
    My primary DNS is localhost and secondary is 127.0.0.1.Now, when i start the named service and httpd service and try to access the site, i get the Alert that site not found.

    Plz help me with this?

    I think you need to add the "." after the oct4doom1.com on this line, like this:

    Code:
    oct4doom1.com. IN A 192.168.0.100
    You should also check your /var/log/messages file for any named errors when you restart named. There could be a file location problem too.

    Also, try to use the "dig" and "host" commands to help with troubleshooting. It will give a good idea of what the DNS server actually thinks it's doing based on the contents of the zone file.

    Thumbs up

    Hello!

    Thanks a lot for your reply .First my named service was running from chroot, as i was making changes to the configuartion file in "/" the change had no effect.

    Secondly, addition of "." made it work.Thank you for your help .

    Regards!
