    switching advice

    HI

i'm currently switching from win2000 to ubuntu, so as you can imagine, i'm trying to find programs that do the things the programs i use under win2000 do.

I've found most of them, but i am still looking for an equivalent to my trusted old look@lan

when i search adept for "network monitoring" all i get are packet sniffers, wich is not exactly what i am looking for. i just want to know if any new computers turn up on my lan.

    thanks

    wouter

My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive.

Try arpwatch. It sends emails to you if the server detects any ARP requests from unknown MAC addresses on your local LAN / network segment.

It won't work if the new device is on a different LAN segment.
