    Software for media pc

I have a spare box kicking around that I want to set up as a media pc, but what I'm after is something along the lines of this:

when box boots, automatically logs in, and displays a menu giving the option for video or music. From there, selecting music would open a program to play mp3's, preferably something that doesn't require a keyboard. Selecting video would let you navigate through some folders to open a media file, and play it, preferably a decent looking navigation system.

This box has no dvd player, so dvd playback isn't required, most media will be connected to accross a network.

    Any suggestions?

MythTV does seem to fit the bill rather nicely. It won't matter that i don't have a TV tuner card will it? I don't plan on recording any TV or anything like that. Would I be correct in assuming that the TV tuner stuff can just be disabled?

would imagine so, been thinking about MythTV for my GF's home entertainment and PVR. Also saw a decent writeup in maximumpc mag comparing some products that included myth.

This month's LJ (Linux Journal) have more than a few articles about digital living with Linux. Many great articles. May be you pick up a copy of it?
