phonesdealer bites the dust with Nokia Phone SPAM
And all my posts replying to them.![]()
Have you been watching the IPs from these bots so you can block the ranges? Surely there are some ranges you could do without. Or maybe the BB has support for some type of blacklist?
Over at SE, we just ended of blocking most of asia, and none of us admins have seen a bot since. We are also using vBullitin btw.
I hesitate to block entire ranges of IP addresses from posting to the forums. The site's visitors are equally distributed between the Americas, Asia and EMEA.
The moderators have the ability to use an infraction system to permanently disable members and they also have the ability to permanently delete posts.
Some spammers will always get through, the key is to make their handiwork short lived.
If it gets worse, we'll have to revisit the solution, but we should be OK for now.
I suggest this:
Create a private (not seen unless you qualify even) forum for the mods to track the banned people, their IPs and the infraction. This will make tracking minor infractions, but repeat offenders easier to handle most efficiently.
Just a thought, but one that works well for others.
User lemermobile banned for Nokia spam.
If you are a moderator, you can ban users yourself. There is a yellow/redcard (like in soccer) icon at the top of each post which you can use to give an infraction and provide a reason.
If it is blatant spam, feel free to ban, and permanently delete the post. The member can appeal to me directly.

My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive.
Member gaspar92627 has been banned for sex products spam. Thanks to the moderator who deleted the posts ahead of me.
User gaspar92627 had to be banned again. The previous infraction was accidentally set to be temporary.
