If AMD wants the edge over Nvidia, GPLing ATI drivers would do wonders. The withdraw of ATI's work with OSS community a few years ago was the bad judgment of ATI management team. As OSS is getting popular with Tech-heavy crowd, the one which doesn't support will fall behind. That's one of the reason almost all of my VGA card purchases had been nvidia based cards.
