    cannot detect 80 gb hdd in red hat linux 9.0

    I cannot detect 80 gb hdd in red hat linux 9.0 .When i try to use the commend

    fdisk /dev/hdb

    it gives an error ,cannot connect.

    Hard disk is connected to primary slave

    help

    is it possible for you to use a newer version of Linux, say like Fedora Core 5, it would be easier to debug just based on it's age.

    Regardless if that is not possible does the disk show up in /dev and if you do cfdisk /dev/hdX (X being the assigned letter)

    is the master being seen on that channel and is the drive being seen in the BIOS? Also - is there anything special about the drive -e.g. sata, if so sata I or sata II ?
