Just installed Linux yesterday

Ok, thought I'd jump into the Linux Pool with both feet. I built a computer from excess parts I had around the house, and installed ArkLinux 2006.1rc2. It actually works, kind of. My background is mostly OS/2 (yes, there are a few people still running it) and Windoze.

Is there a good book that someone can recommend for someone like myself who's exposure to Linux is very limited? I do have some very old books on Linux, and they have helped getting me this far, but now I want to try installing some software I have downloaded, and have no idea where to even start.
